Arnica (Arnica Montana), also known as Wolf’s Bane has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities that can reduce pain and swelling, improving wound healing, stimulates blood circulation for muscle or for sore or painful joints, for sprains, for swellings Arnica works by: dispersing trapped, disorganized fluids from bumped and bruised tissue, joints and muscles and stimulating the activity of white blood cells that relieve congested trapped blood cells.

Black Cumin (Nigella Sativa) The Blessed Black Seed when combined in a massage blend can help against body pains, aches and stiffness. This may be due to its anti-inflammatory properties and could help in products for rheumatism, arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. Black Seed can be used to relieve Arthritis and various research including a study undertaken at Kings College, London (1960’s) reported that Black Seed Oil had anti-inflammatory effects and could be useful for relieving arthritis pain. It was discovered that the oil contained anti-oxidant activity and inhibited eicosanoid generation in cells. Certain eicosanoids, which are short lived local tissue hormones, are responsible for the inflammatory response whereas anti-oxidants help to slow cartilage degeneration.

Neem (Azadirachta indica)(also known as margosa oil) has powerful anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial, anti-fungal, antiseptic, and moisturizing properties which make it useful in treating a range of skin conditions as well as joint and muscle pain. Ayurvedic medicine considers Neem to be especially effective as medicated oil for the treatment of joint pain, muscle aches, skin infections and inflammatory skin conditions.

Calophyllum oil (Calophyllum inophyllum) This oil is a strong analgesic and is used for sciatica, neuritis, rheumatism, shingles, neuritis and leprous.

Calendula Oil (Calendula officinalis) The herb’s primary active compounds include triterpenoids (they are anti-inflammatory) and flavonoids. Modern laboratory and animal studies indicate that calendula petals do indeed have anti-inflammatory, astringent, and antiseptic (antibacterial and antiviral) properties, and may even offer immune-stimulating actions. It has been shown that Calendula Oil, as an active ingredient in a back pain and sore muscle and joint treatment it is an effective topical analgesic for pain relief. The carotenes, phytosterols, polyphenols and EFAs present in the herb allow pain relieving penetrating formulation products that can dramatically improve the flow of blood and oxygen to the affected RA area of the body.
Wintergreen Essential Oil (Gaultheria procumbens)Oil of Wintergreen’s major use is joint and muscular pain relief from conditions such as lumbago, sciatica, neuralgia, gout, fibromyalgia and so on. The dried leaf and stem of Wintergreen is current in the British Herbal Pharmacopoeia as a specific for rheumatoid arthritis. Oil of Wintergreen is almost entirely methyl salicylate, which is a precursor to aspirin.

Wintergreen should therefore NOT be used by people who are allergic to aspirin. Both muscle pains and those pains associated with normal onset arthritis are known to greatly diminish when treated with wintergreen oil. When it is combined with eucalyptus oil in a pain reliever, the effects are nothing short of stunning. This has even been noticed by some who might have spent years taking over the counter drugs only to find the effects eventually were no longer what they had hoped for.

Peppermint Essential Oil (Mentha piperita) Peppermint oil can be used externally for providing relief from pain. It is believed that the presence of calcium antagonism in peppermint oil aids in removing pain. It is a powerful analgesic pain reliever to relieve sore and achy muscles and joints. Peppermint soothes the sore muscles and joints and cools inflammation.  Used in liniments for the relief of muscle pain, lumbago, bruises, joint pain and insect bites.

 Lavender (Lavandula officinalis, L angustifolia, L vera.) (The most famous essential oil for pain relief and relaxation is lavender. Lavender is indicated as a pain relief for all types of pain including those caused by sore muscles, tense muscles, muscular aches, muscle spasm, sprain, strain, cramp, backache, pain in the joints ,lumbago, contracture and rheumatic pain. It is sedative to the central nervous system and relieves headache, nervous tension, and insomnia. Lavender is a powerful antispasmodic well-suited for muscular, respiratory and circulatory problems.
            
Roman & German Chamomile (Roman, Anthemis nobilis and German, Marticaria recutita), Chamomile is a highly effective anti-inflammatory. It eases dull muscle and low back pain, TMJ syndrome headache and neuralgia.  Both are used to calm frayed nerves, to relieve muscle spasms, and to treat a range of skin conditions and mild infections. The anti-inflammatory properties make it good for rheumatism, arthritis, and other painful swellings, sores, sprains, strains, stress and wounds. It is often used in skin preparations, especially those designed for sensitive skin, due to its soothing, calming, anti-inflammatory qualities. It is considered one of the gentlest of oils. It is said to be beneficial in treating sprains, inflamed tendons and swollen joints.

Eucalyptus oil (Eucalyptus Globulus & Radiata): The volatile eucalyptus oil is analgesic and anti inflammatory in nature. Therefore it is often recommended to patients suffering from rheumatism, lumbago, sprained ligaments and tendons, stiff muscles, aches, fibrosis and even nerve pain. It has long been considered a potent natural remedy for treating back pain. Eucalyptus oil works naturally to increase blood flow, which in turns brings more oxygen to the brain to enhance healing.

Corn Mint (Mentha arvenis) Is helpful for rheumatism and neuralgia and muscular aches. Corn Mint essential oil acts as a local anesthetic to stop pain.
